Dr. Pieter J de Waal grew up in the Northern Cape, SA and matriculated in Kathu High School From that time he knew he wanted to become a doctor who looks after the needs and illness of children. He finished his studies as a doctor at the University of the Free State, Bloemfontein, South Africa in 2000. He completed his internship at Red Cross Children’s Hospital and Grootte Schuur Hospital in Cape Town, South Africa. Here he cared for children that underwent serious surgical procedures. He completed his community service year in Welkom Regional Hospital spending most of his time dedicated to treating newborn babies and bigger children. At the end of this year, he was awarded as the Medical Officer of the Year of this hospital. He obtained

his specialist degree as a paediatrician in 2008 at the University of the Free State, Bloemfontein, Free State, South Africa. He started he’s own pediatric and neonatology practice in 2008, based at Netcare Pelonomi/Universitas Hospital Complex and Hillandale Healthcare Centre, situated just outside Bloemfontein on the Woodlands Wildlife Estate, which serves as a fully independent medical institution and hospital as well as a medical rehabilitation centre, for children and adults who need post hospital discharge rehabilitation care.

Dr PJ de Waal is currently a full time private pediatric specialist at Netcare Private Hospital, Bloemfontein, Free State, South Africa.

He is a general pediatrician with a special interest in illnesses of the newborn baby, preventing transmission of HIV from mother to baby and treating children infected with HIV and Childhood Tuberculoses.

Dr Pieter looks after his pediatric patients in a holistic manner (biopshycosocially) thus ensuring that all parents leave his consulting rooms completely satisfied and fully informed about there little one medical condition. Dr Pieter handles most of phone calls from concerned parents himself (during –and after hours) and his specialist advised is accessible to anyone.
